Anti-Cheat False Positives and Recovery

What's happening

Sunrise's anti-cheat sometimes kicks legitimate players with the message "Flying is not enabled." This is a false positive — the anti-cheat saw your position do something unexpected and assumed flight hacks.

Common causes (none of them are actually cheating):

• Standing on or near a block that just changed (a piston extending, a redstone-controlled trapdoor)
• Logging in inside a crate or near spawn during an animation
• Lag spikes that make the server lose track of your vertical position
• Standing on certain entity types (boats, end crystals, item frames in odd configurations)

What to do when it happens once

If you get kicked and you can rejoin normally:

1. Move immediately on rejoin. Walk a few blocks, jump once, take a step away from whatever you were standing on.
2. The anti-cheat re-anchors your position — that's usually the end of it.

What to do if you're stuck in a loop

If rejoining puts you right back in the kick (kick → join → kick → join), the position the server has stored is the problem. You need staff to break the loop.

Ask staff to jail and release you.

What "jail and release" does:

1. Staff teleports you into a jail cell (this clears your stored position).
2. Staff releases you, which puts you somewhere safe like spawn.
3. The kick loop is broken.

It takes about 30 seconds and is harmless — it's not a punishment.

The black-screen variant

A related issue: you join, the screen goes black, you disconnect. Same root cause (a problematic logged-out position), different symptom.

The same fix applies — ask staff to jail and release you. While you wait, you can try:

1. Restart your Minecraft client. Close it fully, reopen.
2. Clear your resource pack cache. In your Minecraft installation folder, delete or rename the server-resource-packs folder.
3. Try a different Minecraft version temporarily if you're on a version that's having Geyser issues — sometimes 1.21.0 works when 1.21.10 doesn't, or vice versa.

If none of those help, jail-and-release will.

Avoiding the issue

Habits that reduce false positives:

• Log out on solid ground. Not on slabs, pistons, fence-tops, or entity stacks.
• Avoid logging out in the crate area. It's the most common trigger by a wide margin.
• Don't log out mid-flight or mid-elytra. Land first.
• If you're about to log out near an automated farm, step a few blocks away to a quiet spot.

Why the anti-cheat is strict

Sunrise's anti-cheat catches real cheaters often — fly hacks and kill aura get caught by the same systems that produce these false positives. Tuning it looser would let actual cheaters through. The trade-off is occasional false-positive kicks, with staff jail-and-release as the safety valve.

Other technical issues

• /fly was working but stopped. Check that you have Moon rank or that you're standing inside an area that allows flight. Some claims have NoFlight set.
• Can't move on Bedrock. Known Geyser limitation — see Joining from Bedrock Edition.
• Crafting failed and items disappeared on Bedrock. Also Geyser. Contact staff with screenshots and they can replace the items.
